You are right, grey is the background - however as with 2008 where greys were also very much in the foreground I think that 2009 will involve less monochromatics and more lively and fun colours. Although saying this, I could be very wrong!

We will see! Thanks for your comment.

Good text, but brights always need a neutral background and it seems that gray is that neutral for the coming season.

Thanks for your comment- you are correct about the consumer not being discerning enough. It is therefore up to us to teach them, to make them aware of design and the importance of quality materials, originality and so on. It is laughable that Mr Price say they encourage local design and then rip off a local fabric, and international designs such as the panton junior - are they aware of their hypocrisy? Surely yes!

The sad truth is, our consumers are not discerning enough to want an original, even though the brag value is so much greater. The current economic state only fuels rip-offs I think. Mr Price is another culprit, I have even seen them copy a fabric that was designed locally, and they are supposedly encouraging local design! It seems that we are a nation of bargain hunters, how sad.

hoi Tin,

Dude, well said. I also feel that it's sad that th likes of @home, mr.price home and the others are not investing in local talent, but think that this is due to a lack of education and awareness on the retailer's and consumer's side. South Africans just do not know about good design, and hence retailers are at liberty to rip consumers off by selling them fakes at exorbitant prices. It's a HUGE pity that design is not a priority on national agenda, but I believe that designers have the responsibility of proving the worth design. Will be coming through to check out the sale startig on the 17th July in Rosebank. Hope to find some really cool stuff.

Come on!!! How I would LOVE to have the heartcone chair (or any of Pantons pieces for that matter) in my home. Who wouldn't? I've been into Twiice countless times and mentally furnish my home with these designer pieces. I have to ask myself though....do I want a cheap rip off in my home? Absolutely not! I look at the design of the Heartcone, the panton and many others and see beauty. They are beautiful! They have that special something....I dunno, perhaps its the fact that they are of course original pieces and whomever designed them put a piece of themselves into it. Its for that reason a fake could NEVER take its place in my home. R 2100? cheap?.. yes. beautiful?.....uh no! @Home WHAT were you thinking??? You have some georgeous things in your store and you commit this crime?!?!?
3 Cheers to Korver!!!

thanks i try and tell my staff this all the time, tomorrow this gets printed and pasted on my shop window. suddenly the ROE is thru the roof and we getting numerous clients from abroad that want everything for nothing! just today i had a woman "negotiating" our transport fees as well as our kickback structure with suppliers!!! I cannot change the cost of getting product to clients select home abroad, and suggest they arrange transport thmselves as our expertise is interior design, not logistics. and as for the fee negotiations, i have paid my schoolfees in full, done my homework to get the A+, got the Degree, and finally sweated the Projects! What makes my expert advice, source of resource, wealth of experience and frankly innate style and taste, any less a cost of investment that any practical property owner would not value when he/she entrusts me to the work?????
